Singular Nouns to Plural Nouns

We can change the singular nouns into plural nouns by using the following rules: 

  • Rule 1 - By adding -s  for most nouns
        Examples:      hole - holes           rock - rocks          month - months

  • Rule 2 - By adding -es for singular nouns ending in -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x and -z
        Examples:      rash - rashes        tax - taxes        witness - witnesses

  • Rule 3 - By changing -y to -i and adding -es  for singular nouns ending in -preceded by a consonant

        Examples:      factory - factories    lady - ladies    fly - flies

  • Rule 4 - By adding -s for singular nouns ending in -y preceded by a vowel
        Examples:      bay - bays        toy - toys        key - keys     boy - boys

  • Rule 5 - By changing the -f or -fe  to -v and adding -es for singular nouns ending in -f or -fe

       Examples:        loaf - loaves        wife - wives        leaf - leaves  

  • Rule 6 - By changing or adding some letters for some singular nouns 

       Examples:       man - men        woman - women        child - children

  • Rule 7 - By adding -es  for singular nouns ending in -o preceded by a consonant
       Examples:        tomato  - tomatoes    veto  - vetoes    hero - heroes

       Except for these words:  photo -photos      logo  - logos      piano - pianos

  • Rule 8 - By adding only an -s  for singular nouns ending in -o preceded by a vowel.
        Examples:    video - videos        radio - radios        bamboo - bamboos
